How much does your car cost you?

According to AAA the average cost of owning a vehicle this year has gone up to $9,100! Of course this will vary based on the age and type of vehicle you own. This figure includes, among other things, items such as gas, insurance, tires and maintenance.

For a large sedan, you can expect to spend about 23.48 cents per mile and 21.09 cents for a medium sedan.

Do you think this is an accurate statement? Do you think you spend more or less?

You can check out the full report here. There is also a helpful worksheet within the report to help you calculate how much you spend on your vehicle each year.

Overwhelmed by your car’s technology?

Recently purchase a new car? With our technology fields growing by leaps and bounds every day, it is a no brainer that the technology in our vehicles will increase as well. However…sitting in your new car, the technology can sometimes be overwhelming. How do you get it set up? What do all of these buttons do? What if you are missing some great features?

Ford has come to your rescue! In an effort to explain all of their features to their customers, Ford has created a program called ‘Video Snacks’. These “snacks” are short videos explaining different features to the new car owner. You will be able to watch them at the dealership, at delivery, or conveniently at home.

The New Honda Fit -Just For Women?

There are many things marketed as “just for ladies” but Honda has taken it to a whole new level. The Honda Fit “She’s” is a vehicle they are marketing exclusively to women.

It is currently only being sold in Japan and retails for $17,500. So what exactly makes this car so lady friendly? First and foremost is the ample amount of pink on the car, on both the interior and exterior –also available in white and brown (to match eyeshadow colors). The car also includes a windshield that protects against 99% of UV rays and has an air-conditioning system that is said to improve skin quality by pumping specially treated air into the car.

The Honda Fit “She’s” concept is reminiscent of the Dodge La Femme that was introduced in 1955, discontinued in 1957. The La Femme offered colors such as “Sapphire White” and “Heather Rose”, offered upholstery depicting rosebuds and came with a matching umbrella and purse containing beauty products. The poor response to this car led to its demise.

Interesting Driving Apps

Once your vehicle is delivered safe and sound to its new home we are sure you will want to enjoy it. Since technology seems to be involved with every single thing we do nowadays –and driving is no different, we have found two apps that are worth reading about.

1. RepairPal

Price: Free

Availability: iPhone and Android

What does it do? RepairPal will tell you the right price to pay for repairs, offers 24/7 roadside assistance (you are only charged for usage, not a monthly fee), allows you to track all of your repairs and will refer you to a mechanic in your area based on GPS. This app seems to be something that could really come in handy one late, rainy night when your tire decides to blow or if you are the type of person that easily forgets to get an oil change. Below are some screen shots.

2. DriveSafe.ly

Price: Free with ability to upgrade

Availability: BlackBerry, iPhone, Android, Windows Mobile

What does it do? DriveSafe.ly will read your text messages and emails aloud in real time and is capable of responding without touching the phone. The free version will read up to 25 words per message, offers a female voice and allows you to create auto responses.  DriveSafe.ly offers a Pro package which will read up to 500 words per message, allows you to respond via voice, has male and female voices, allows you to change the speed at which the message is read and allows you to send auto responses ad free.

There have been several campaigns lately to bring awareness to the dangers of texting and driving, as well as many states passing laws against it. However I think it is safe to say that a large portion of drivers have been tempted to text while driving. We’ve all been there-you are driving and you hear your phone go off with what could be an important message. It can be hard to resist the temptation to look at your phone, but with this app it seems that the temptation has been removed.

“How do I even begin to ship my car from state to state?”

“I don’t want to drive, how am I going to get my car from one state to another?” is a question often asked by people in the very beginnings of their auto shipping process. This may be the basis of a simple internet search, but then you are faced with literally thousands of search results all differing in their method of shipping the vehicle, various pricing, and hundreds of companies that claim to be the best in the industry. But a simple answer to the “How do I ship my vehicle?” question is this: you find an auto transporter, place an order, they will pick up your car, and deliver it wherever you want it delivered. Now this can vary based on the type of auto transporter you select. For example, some auto shipping companies strictly transport from terminal to terminal, meaning you will have to drop your vehicle off and pick it up from their facilities. Others will offer door to door services, pretty self explanatory but the truck will pick the vehicle up from the origin location and deliver it to the desired destination location. You will need to decide if you want to work with a broker or try to locate a driver by yourself. If you choose to go with a broker they will coordinate the move for you, eliminating the stress of finding a dependable driver. Regardless of the company you choose it is very important to do a search of previous reviews of their service; read up on customer reviews, their affiliation with the BBB, also check that they have proper authorization from the government to be in business. By taking advantage of quote websites such as Express Auto Transport Quotes, you can save time by comparing multiple prices and companies in one convenient location. If you follow these simple tips your auto transport will surely be a breeze!

Innovation Vs. Tradition

If you watched the Super Bowl last weekend you probably noticed that a large portion of the commercials went to the automakers. Today I came across this list of 10 up and coming car companies. You can find the list here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/40887273/ns/business-autos/#.TzA2S_kkols. What are your thoughts on purchasing a vehicle from a smaller new company rather than from one of the larger and well known companies? Would you support these ideas of innovation or stick with your trusty old favorites?

Automakers Head To The Super Bowl

This coming Sunday marks a big day for American culture…pizza, beer, chicken wings, parties…and that’s right, football! This Sunday people that do not even like football will attend parties or tune in to watch the Super Bowl. So what does this have to do with an auto blog? The commercials. Companies spend millions of dollars on advertising during the Super Bowl. Chrysler, GM, Volkswagen, Honda, Chevrolet, Cadillac, Hyundai, Acura, Toyota, Audi, and Suzuki are expected to have commercials during the showdown between the New England Patriot’s and the New York Giants. Below are links to a few automaker commercials that have been released prior to the actual game. Keep an eye out for car commercials during the game! Do you think these commercials are effective?

Why Are You Shipping Your Car?

When forced to transport your vehicle long distances you may drawl a blank on your transport options. Once you decide that you do not want to drive the vehicle your next move is probably off to the internet to research how to ship your car. You will find an assortment of auto transport options from someone willing to drive your car for you to brokers that will arrange every detail of your transport. It is important to determine the most important aspect of your auto shipment, such as the price, travel time, or vehicle safety. Once you determine this it will be much easier for you to narrow down what type of vehicle shipment will be best for you. For example if it is imperative that your vehicle arrive by a specific date for an auto show…and that date just happens to only be a week away, you may want to acknowledge that the lowest quoted price probably will not get your vehicle to your car show on time. Alternatively if time is not a factor and you are just looking for the overall lowest price, going with that low price may be an option as long as you understand that it will probably take some time for your vehicle to move. It is highly recommended that you explain your motivations and the circumstances of your vehicle shipment to your auto transporter to ensure that you receive the best service possible for your shipment.

Kia Optima and Rondo Recalls

Kia Motors has announced that it will be recalling 145,755 Optima sedans and Rondo crossovers in the United States due to potentially faulty driver airbags. The model years that are affected are 2006-2008 Optimas and 2007-2008 Rondos. According to Kia, the recall is expected to begin in March and if your vehicle is affected by this problem your airbag light will be illuminated. The clock-spring assembly used in the airbag system can become damaged over time and prevent the airbag from deploying. If you have an Optima or Rondo with the model years listed above and your airbag light is on, keep your ears open in the months to come.

Auto Transport Process

I have noticed in recent months that there is often an uncertainty with customers about how the auto shipping process works with a broker. I would like to take a moment today and explain the process. Typically your auto shipment starts with simply requesting a quote either on a website via a quote form or by calling an auto transport company to speak with them directly. You will receive an estimated price based on the size of your vehicle, the mileage between the origin and destination, and the going rate in the market at that given time. Once you decide on an auto transport company you will need to place an actual order. The associate you speak with will take more detailed information such as information about your individual vehicle, your pickup and destination street addresses, the areas surrounding these addresses, and any payment information required. On average, it takes about 1-7 days from your ready date, the first day the vehicle is available to be picked up, for your vehicle to be dispatched to a carrier. Once your vehicle has been dispatched, it will depend on how close the truck is to your vehicle in their route. They may want to pick it up the same day or it could be a few days until they are in your area. When the truck arrives to load your vehicle, the driver should request that you participate in a brief inspection of the vehicle. Once this is finished, the driver will load the vehicle and transport it to the destination location. Upon arriving the vehicle will be unloaded and another inspection should be preformed. If there are any payment arrangements that have been made for cash on delivery, this is time that transaction would take place. As you can see the process is relatively easy and is really aimed at providing convenience to customers.
